TiNiO Toy Cars: 3rd Year and 100th Special

For the past week, I've been postponing this. But just the same, I'm happy to announce that TiNiO Toy Cars recently celebrated its 3rd Year Anniversary (created January 2, 2009). WooooT!!! And coincidentally, as previously promised, the 100th post will be a little bit more special. I have never imagined I blogged this long already though my 100th post came after 3 years! Hehehehe. :D

The past weekend I've been busy sorting stuffs and shooting them simultaneously, hoping it will be worthy of this special post. I was thinking if I will do it in parts but decided against it and just post it in one go!

So, without further adieu... ;)

TiNiO Toy Cars 2011: A Year Ender

Well it is the time once again to do a year end blog though I didn't made one in 2010. Time really flies, whew!!! :D

Started the year really slow as the first hauls already came middle of January. Concentrated mostly on Matchbox and Hot Wheels. This was largely due to economic conditions. The next purchase took another three weeks before it happened. February to April was very very active in hauling new additions. Comes May, there was zero acquisition. :(

By middle of the year, made only two purchases then there was a long lull again from July to August. The diecast funds were diverted in acquiring some vintage Seiko mechanical watches. An old passion rekindled. :D

Last quarter from September to December was the most productive in growing the collection but also in blogging. When the last week of November approached, gone berserk on LEGO Minifigures!!!

Completed Lego Minifigures Series 2 to 5 in less than a month. Wow! That was fast! :D Series 1 will be acquired soon (hello Ebay) along with the release of Series 6 first week of January. :D

Wow! How time flies! Hi! Hello there my friends, it's been two months since I last posted. There's an old flame (hobby) that's been eating the diecast collecting funds. Hehehehe. :D

I'll post it soon to share it here. So, stay tuned. ;)

Now, let's focus on what I got for the past 2 months. A friend from the US went home last month and brought me two packs of LEGO Star Wars Clone Troopers (to be use as props for another purchase). Then from a recent swapmeet, I got the now rare Jada VDUBS VW Beetle. And from the frequent trip to favorite toy shops, I chance upon a Matchbox Land Rover Defender and Ice Cream Van. :)

I'd like to say thanks to my friends Joey (VW Beetle) and Jun (Toyota Land Cruiser) for these RAOKs (random act of kindness). ;)

The Ferrari GTO (often referred to as Ferrari 288 GTO) is an exotic homologation of the Ferrari 308 GTB produced from 1984 through 1986, designated GT for Gran Turismo and O for Omologato (homologation in Italian).

Background

The Ferrari GTO was built to compete in the new Group B Race series and a minimum of 200 cars were required for homologation. However as only Ferrari and Porsche, with their 959, entered, the series was soon abandoned leaving just Group B Rally championship. The Porsche 959 (as the Porsche 961) only raced three times in Group B, but the 288 GTO never raced and all 272 cars built remained purely road cars.

Some of the 288 GTO's styling features were first displayed on a 308 GTB design exercise by Pininfarina shown at the 1977 Geneva Salon. This included the deep front spoiler, fender flares, rear lip spoiler, front lid radiator cooling louvers and quadruple driving lights.

Engine

The GTO was based on the mid-engined, rear wheel drive 308 GTB (which has a 3.0 litre V8 engine). The "288" refers to the GTO's 2.8 litre V8 engine as it used a de-bored (by 1 mm) V8 with twin IHI turbochargers, intercoolers, and Weber-Marelli fuel injection. The 2855 cc engine capacity was dictated by the FIA's requirement for a Turbocharged engine's capacity to be multiplied by 1.4. This gave the GTO a theoretical engine capacity of 3997 cc, just under the Group B limit of 4.0 litres.

Unlike the 308's 2926 cc engine, the GTO's 2855 cc engine was mounted longitudinally, using the 308's rear boot space. This was necessary to make room for the twin turbochargers and intercoolers. The racing transmission was mounted to the rear of the longitudinal engine moving the rear differential and wheels aft. As a result the wheelbase was110 mm (4.3 in) longer at 2,450 mm (96 in). The track was also widened to accommodate wider wheels and tires (Goodyear NCT 225/50VR16 tires mounted on 8 x 16" Speedline wheels at the front and 255/50VR16 mounted on 10 x 16" wheels at the rear) to provide increased cornering and braking performance and the ability to apply 400 hp (298 kW) and 366 lb·ft (496 N·m) of torque to the ground. The GTO was an impressive performer with 0-60 mph times in the upper 4 second range. Ferrari claimed 0-125 mph (201 km/h) in 15 seconds flat. Top speed was 189 mph (304 km/h), making it the first street-legal production car to reach 300 km/h (186 mph).^[1]

FN2 Honda Civic Type R

The European market Civic Type R is offered only as a three door hatch back and uses a different chassis and internal layout (notably tank placement below the driver's seat), which will serve as base for the next European Jazz. The rear suspension formerly a double wishbone set up has been changed to a less complex torsion beam axle. The drive train is largely the same as the out going model offering 201 PS (148 kW; 198 hp) at 7,500 rpm and 193 N·m (142 lb·ft) of torque at 5,600 rpm. It runs on 225/40 R18 Y88 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres, while optional 19" Rage alloys run on Yokohama Advan Sport 225/35 ZR19 88Y tyres. The car has a curb weight of 1,267 kg (2,790 lb).

Versions

Type R GT includes, dual zone climate control (Left:right independent), rain sensing windscreen wipers, refrigerated glove box, automatic headlights with dusk sensor, front fog lights, power folding door mirrors, cruise control, front and rear curtain airbags. It is finished in the same three colours as the standard FN2, and a new addition the range, deep sapphire blue pearl. As often, names and trims vary even within domain markets down to local ones, and a Heritage version replaces GT version in some of them, adding Xenon/HID lights to the mix. The topping Heritage Navi version adds Bluetooth telephone system and voice recognition DVD satellite navigation. A more radical version dubbed Race differs from the Heritage by removing components (incl. HID, AC, fog lights, audio system, sound proofing, some airbags) to reduce weight as much as 40 kg (88 lb). Finally, together with the 2009 revision to all 8th gen. EDM Civic variants (adding for example a USB iPod-compatible plug to the audio system), a special edition called Championship White comes in the eponyme Honda color, with the same alloys only with matching white color, 18" wheels (19" white Rage optional). This edition adds an exclusive limited slip differential to a Heritage trim level, which Honda touted at Paris Motor Show as helping the car shave off more than a second to its undisclosed Tsukuba lap time.

Production of the current generation of the Civic Type R hot hatch for the European market is due to finish in October 2010. The car’s high-revving 2.0-litre VTEC engine is to blame, as it does not meet forthcoming Euro V emissions regulations. Instead of reengineering the unit the meet the stricter standards, which come into force for all new cars in January 2011, the UK market Type R will be axed and replaced by a new model when the all-new Civic arrives in late 2011. Over 12,000 Civic Type Rs have been sold in the UK since January 2007, and although the last UK cars will be sold by December, Honda’s Swindon plant will continue to build the car for the Australian and South African markets. It is also exported to Japan and marketed as Civic Type-R EURO in limited edition in fall 2010, following a successful run in November 2009.^[14] According to Autocar, Euro V emission requirement also caused the demise of Alfa Brera with 3.2 V6, Ford Focus ST, Mazda RX-8 and the VW Group’s 5.0 V10 turbodiesel.^[15]

The Datsun 510 or P510/PL510 was a series of the Datsun Bluebird sold from 1968 to 1974, and offered outside the U.S. as the Datsun 1600. According to AutoWeek's G.D. Levy, the 510 has often been called the "poor man's BMW." The 510's engineering was inspired by contemporary European sedans, particularly the 1966 BMW 1600-2, incorporating a SOHC engine, MacPherson strut suspension in front and independent, semi-trailing arms in the back.^[1] The European-influenced sheet metal design is attributed to Datsun in-house designer, Teruo Uchino.

The engine was pushed through by Nissan USA president Yutaka Katayama, a design developed through Prince, an acquisition, with some Mercedes Benz influence.^[2]

Its positive reputation led to the 510 tag being reused there for the unrelated 1978-1981 Nissan Stanza 'H510' in an effort to capture this range’s glory.

Launched in August 1968, it was one of the most comprehensive Bluebird ranges in terms of body styles: a two-door sedan, a four-door sedan, a five-door station wagon, and a two-door coupé (added in November 1968).

This range became famous for Nissan's rallying successes outside Japan and paved the way for greater Nissan sales internationally.

The Datsun 510 released to the U.S. market came originally with the Hitachi downdraft carbureted 1.6L L-series I4 engine, with an advertised gross power of 96 hp (72 kW), a claimed top speed of 100 mph, front disc brakes, 4-wheel independent suspension (MacPherson strut front and semi trailing arm rear- wagons had a solid rear live axle and leaf springs in back), rear wheel drive, and either a 4-speed manual or a 3-speed automatic transmission. 2-door sedan, 4-door sedan, and 4-door station wagon variants were available. It achieved 20-30 mpg in factory trim (U.S.). JDM spec models were also available in a 2-door coupe body style in either a 1.6L or a 1.8L (1973) L-Series engine. 510's in some markets offered available twin Hitachi side-draft carburetors, which were a smaller version of the British SU (Skinner's Union ) design used on Jaguars and MGs^{[citation needed]}. These engines also used enhanced compression and camshaft profiles to produce more power. SSS models (not available for the U.S. 510) offered upgraded instrumentation and interior trim, as well as appropriate exterior badges. All U.S. model 510s received anti-sun glass from 1970-on.

Mitsubishi Triton L200

The Mitsubishi Triton is a compact pickup truck produced by Mitsubishi Motors. It was originally known as the Mitsubishi Forte in Japan from 1978 to 1986, when the name was discontinued in favour of the Strada. In the United States two captive imports of the Forte were sold by the Chrysler Corporation from 1979, as the Dodge Ram 50 and Plymouth Arrow Truck. Mitsubishi itself imported it as the Mighty Max when it began selling directly in the U.S. from 1982, at which point the Plymouth ceased to be available. For most export markets the name L200 is used,^[3]^[4]^[5] though it also been known as the Rodeo,^[6] Colt Bakkie,^[7] Storm, Magnum, and others.

The fourth generation Triton, built in Mitsubishi's subsidiary in Thailand and launched in 2005, was designed by Akinori Nakanishi and is exported to 140 global markets.^[4] Cumulative sales of the first three generations exceeded 2.8 million units around the world.^[8] However, Proton has renewed cross-licensing and technology transfer agreements with Mitsubishi as of October 2008, and a second-generation Proton Arena replacement called the Proton Jumbuck 2nd.

The Raptor is a modified F-150 truck intended for high speed off road use, available in extended cab or crew cab models only.^[1] Inspired by the prerunners used by high-dollar off road teams, it brings a variety of off road features. Developed by the Special Vehicle Team (SVT) at Ford, the Raptor was used as a test bed for further engineering validation for the new 6.2-liter, 379-cubic-inch V8. The truck itself ran in 2008 Baja 1000 where it finished 3rd in class. With 5300 confirmed orders, first year Raptor sales have exceeded 1999's Lightning production numbers. The Raptor began hitting showrooms in late 2009.

Now here are my hauls, a third copy of the Matchbox 5-pack with an orange Toyota Land Cruiser. Then finally, I have my Tomica Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X APITA after 3 months of waiting. :D Then another set of Hot Wheels...some Ferrari.. Enzo yellow, the latest color variation, 288 GTO, 308 GTS and 458 Italia. Then Hot Wheels Mini Cooper another new variant and the Datsun Bluebird 510. Then Matchbox Cliff Hanger red and a loose Mitsubishi L200 (aka Triton in the US) from the latest 5-pack. ;)

I should have gotten more but sad to say some items are in limited quantities. Better luck next time, I am sure glad that saved my wallet from further damage. Hehehehehe! :D :D :D

So, what am I doing for the past month. It seems a long time since I last posted here. I've been busy with my other blog (Run TiNiO) and getting myself fit. :)

I got to order some Matchbox 10-packs and two singles during the holidays and I only got them last weekend. This is sort of my first haul of 2011 and just want to share these new sets. ;)

The other day, I was out to see a collector friend, Maki, in his office in stock exchange to register to their sponsored race event. Yes, I'm into running which was the reason I haven't posted anything for a month. :D After registering, I went to the mall and do some toy hunting with a hot tip that Majorette's has new models (read: restock) with a Toyota Land Cruiser on its lineup. But looking at every peg I wasn't able to get a hand of it. I went from one toy store to another to no avail. Tsk tsk tsk! :(

So, I concluded, maybe some other collectors have already raided the pegs and there's nothing left. Then on my last toy store, almost giving up, I tried to look a little deeper on the racks and voila! I saw this Matchbox 5-pack and what do you know, it was the new Matchbox Desert Adventure No. 9 with the latest orange variant of Toyota Land Cruiser!!! WooooT!!! :D :D :D

WDIOT? Toyota Land Cruiser

The Toyota FJ40 is the model designation for a Toyota Land Cruiser 40 series made from 1960 until 1984. Most 40 series Land Cruisers were built as two-door vehicles with slightly larger dimensions than a Jeep CJ.

The model was also available under the BJ40 / 41 / 42 ( short wheelbase ), BJ43 / 44 / 46 ( middle wheelbase ) or HJ45 / 47 ( long wheelbase ) designation where it had a Diesel engine.

References to the series in this article will be to the J40 series unless referring to one of the petrol ( FJ40 / 42 – 2WD ) or diesel ( BJ4# / HJ4# ) models specifically.

WDIBT? Swapmeet Hauls

Geez! It took me almost 1.5 weeks to have another post. Hehehehe! :D

We have our October 2010 Swapmeet held last Sunday at Sky Dome SM North EDSA. So, I just like to share my hauls from the event and some previous acquisitions. I got the new Matchbox 4x4 Stars 10-pack (with the sought after Toyota Land Cruiser Safari) & Mountain Adventure 5-pack.

Then some carded Hot Wheels Ferrari 458 Italia (fresh from Guam courtesy of my friend Bot), Toyota Land Cruisers, Delivery Series Power Panel (for my knobby tires collection), Matchbox Austin Mini Cooper S and Toyota Land Cruiser.

Then the loose ones, I got second copies of Matchbox Lincoln Navigators (now I have a loose beige Superfast), Ford Expedition Blues Clues, MBX 4x4, Quick Sander, Chevy K-1500 pickup and Hot Wheels Ferrari 288 GTO. ;)

The Lincoln Navigator is a full-size luxury SUV built by the Ford Motor Company for its luxury division, Lincoln. Introduced as a 1998 model, production began May 14, 1997^[1] with sales beginning in August.^[3] The Navigator was Lincoln's first SUV as well as its first four-wheel drive capable vehicle. The Navigator shares a platform, mechanical features, and other equipment with the Ford Expedition, which was introduced one year before it. Unique and upscale styling, interior materials, and other features differ the Navigator from the Expedition. Given its platform mate, the Navigator is the largest vehicle Lincoln currently offers, having the greatest cargo capacity and seating for seven to eight people, depending on the model. For 2007, a longer, extended wheelbase version of the Navigator called the Navigator L was introduced, increasing cargo capacity further. Since its introduction, Lincoln has offered only one engine choice at a time in the Navigator in any model year; all are variations of Ford's 5.4 L Modular V8.

In spite of a base manufacturer's suggested retail price of over $42,000 in 1998, the Navigator proved to be popular with nearly 44,000 sold in its first year.^[4] Competitors from General Motors like the Cadillac Escalade and the GMC Denali Series quickly followed to cash in on Lincoln's success with the Navigator. Much like the Cadillac Escalade would do, the Navigator found a niche with celebrities and the customized SUV scene.

Geez! It's been a couple days after I can post my weekend hauls. There are assorted of items that I have acquired in exchange to some non-essential (read: impulse buying) diecast cars that I sold and earned a little profit in the process. :D ;)

A couple of years back, when I began seriously taking up this hobby of diecast collection, I have my first main line in Hot Wheels...the Dairy Delivery. There was the "Holiday Rods" series. I only got two colors from the series, red and gold, but never to get hold of the remaining two colors of green and blue. But last Saturday, low and behold, Jun (a close friend of mine) offered me the complete set in an unbelievable bargain price.

Now, I have two reds and golds so the excess pair will definitely be posted on the for sale thread. Anyone buying? ;)

Then I got the VVHTF (very very hard to find) Matchbox Superfast Lincoln Navigator white which was last to be able to complete the line. I will post the complete set soon. Along with it I got the new release Hot Wheels Ferrari 308GTS blue.

Then Geoff (another close friend), got me the on sale "Mean Machine" mean plates. An additional accessories for my Ferrari display. I hope I can get to use them on an public exhibit soon. ;)

And last among the batch of hauls, some Takara Tomy Choro-Q & Q-Steer sold at a bargain price and the 40th Anniversary Tomica Toyota Land Cruiser fresh from Hong Kong care of another friend Edwin.

Coincidentally, last Saturday was also the celebration of Tomica's 40th Anniversary and our club (DCPH) together with the Tomica collector members have a public exhibit at SM Megamall.

I'll post a separate blog about it next. ;)

Austin Mini Cooper

The Mini is a small car that was made by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successors from 1959 until 2000. The original is considered a British icon of the 1960s,^[3]^[4]^[5] and its space-saving front-wheel-drive layout (that allowed 80% of the area of the car's floorpan to be used for passengers and luggage) influenced a generation of car-makers.^[6] The vehicle is in some ways considered the British equivalent to its German contemporary, the Volkswagen Beetle, which enjoyed similar popularity in North America. In 1999 the Mini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th Century, behind the Ford Model T.^{[citation needed]}

This distinctive two-door car was designed for BMC by Sir Alec Issigonis.^[7]^[8] It was manufactured at the Longbridge and Cowley plants in England, the Victoria Park / Zetland British Motor Corporation (Australia) factory in Sydney, Australia, and later also in Spain (Authi), Belgium, Chile, Italy (Innocenti), Portugal, South Africa, Uruguay, Venezuela and Yugoslavia. The Mini Mark I had three major UK updates: the Mark II, the Clubman and the Mark III. Within these was a series of variations including an estate car, a pickup truck, a van and the Mini Moke—a jeep-like buggy. The Mini Cooper and Cooper "S" were sportier versions that were successful as rally cars, winning the Monte Carlo Rally four times from 1964 through to 1967, although in 1966 the Mini was disqualified after the finish, along with six other British entrants, which included the first four cars to finish, under a questionable ruling that the cars had used an illegal combination of headlamps and spotlights.^[9] Initially Minis were marketed under the Austin and Morris names, as the Austin Seven and Morris Mini Minor, until Mini became a marque in its own right in 1969.^[10]^[11] The Mini was again marketed under the Austin name in the 1980s.

BMW Mini Cooper "Bini"

The car, whose first generation was designed by Frank Stephenson,^[1] draws inspiration from the original Mini, which was manufactured by the British Motor Corporation and its successors from 1959 to 2000. The name of the car's brand, MINI, is all-capitalised to distinguish it from its predecessor.^[2] Development of the first generation had been done between 1995 and 2001 by Rover Group in Gaydon, United Kingdom and BMW AG in Munich, Germany. During this development phase, there was continual contention between the two design groups, especially concerning the positioning of the car; Rover wanted a straight economy car, whilst BMW supported a small, sporting car. Ultimately, BMW prevailed, and in 1999, they assumed control over the entire project following the departure of BMW's CEO, Bernd Pischetsrieder.^[3] When BMW divested itself of Rover in 2000, BMW elected to retain the Mini project, and to move the planned production site of the car from Rover's Longbridge plant,^[3] (the former production plant of the traditional Mini) to BMW's Oxford plant in Cowley, Oxford, United Kingdom (what was historically the Pressed Steel Company body plant).^[4]

The vehicles produced during the 2001 to 2006 model years (unofficially, the "Mk I Mini") included four hatchback models (referred to by Mini as the Cooper Hardtop): the basic "Mini One", the diesel-engined "Mini One/D", the sportier "Mini Cooper" and the supercharged "Mini Cooper S"; in 2005, a convertible roof option was added to the Mk I line-up. In November 2006, BMW released a re-engineered version of the Mini Hardtop (unofficially the "Mk II Mini") as a 2007 model-year vehicle.^[5] The Mk II is currently available in the original Hardtop and Convertible body styles (the latter being introduced as a 2009 model). A third Mk II body style, an estate called the Clubman, was introduced as a 2008 model.

Mini Van (1960–1982)

A commercial panel van rated at ¼-ton load capacity. Built on the longer Traveller chassis but without side windows, it proved popular in 1960s Britain as a cheaper alternative to the car: it was classed as a commercial vehicle and as such carried no sales tax. A set of simple stamped steel slots served in place of a more costly chrome grille. The Mini Van was renamed as the Mini 95 in 1978, the number representing the gross vehicle weight of 0.95 tons. 521,494 were built.^[20] Despite this renaming, the motoring public continued to call it the Mini Van, as a result of which^{[citation needed]} the class of vehicles known as minivans in other countries are referred to in Britain as MPVs.

WDIOT? "Car Town" Car

The Ford GT began as a concept car designed in anticipation of the automaker's centennial year and as part of its drive to showcase and revive its "heritage" names such as Mustang and Thunderbird. At the 1995 Detroit Auto Show, the Ford GT90 concept was shown. At the 2002 auto show, Ford unveiled a new GT40 Concept car. Camilo Pardo, the head of Ford's "Living Legends" studio, is credited as the chief designer of the GT and worked under the guidance of J Mays.

The GT is similar in outward appearance to the original Ford GT40 cars, but bigger, wider, and 3 in (76 mm) taller than the original 40 in (100 cm); as a result, a potential name for the car was the GT43. Although the cars are visually related, structurally, there is no similarity between the modern GT and the 1960s GT40 that inspired it. Three production prototype cars were shown in 2003 as part of Ford's centenary, and delivery of the production Ford GT began in the fall of 2004.

A British company, Safir Engineering, who built continuation GT40s in the 1980s, owned the "GT40" trademark at that time. When they completed production, they sold the excess parts, tooling, design, and trademark to a small Ohio company called Safir GT40 Spares. This company licensed the use of the "GT40" trademark to Ford for the initial 2002 show car. When Ford decided to make the production vehicle, negotiations between the two firms failed. The production cars do not wear the GT40 badge. Early cars from the 1960s were also simply named "Ford GT".

WDIBT? 9/11 Anniversary Hauls

Nine years ago there was a dreadful event that happened in United States of America. And in commemorating the ninth anniversary of 911, I got a few awesome hauls to forget the horrors of that fateful day. :)

I got the missing link to my Ferrari 288 GTO line, the maroon variant from series one release Hot Wheels Ferrari Racer. It is one of my favorite Ferrari casting and will be subject to another interesting post.

Then these much anticipated Matchbox Lesney edition Toyota Land Cruisers finally arrived of which I got two. One's for keep and other one for loose. :D

The Hot Wheels Mini Cooper Super Chromes is a second copy for me. It will be set loose too. ;)

Then the Toys R Us exclusive color blue Hot Wheels Ferrari F430 Challenge which is very elusive to catch. I already have the first two colors, red and yellow. Hmmm...come to think of it...red, blue and yellow...those are colors of the Philippine flag! Alright! A little bit patriotic I might say. :D ;)

And lastly, a loose Hot Wheels Volkswagen Drag Bus. It will serve as a specimen for an upcoming custom graphic designs. I hope to share my own version of custom drag bus graphic designs soon. ;)

WDIOT? Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X - Part 2

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, colloquially known as the Lancer Evo or Evo,^[1] is a high-performance sedan manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors. There have been ten official versions to date, and the designation of each model is most commonly a roman numeral. All use two litre, turbocharged engines and four-wheel drive systems.^[2]

The Evolution was originally intended only for Japanese markets, but demand on the "grey import" market led the Evolution series to be offered through Ralliart dealer networks in the United Kingdom and in various European markets from around 1998. Mitsubishi decided to export the eighth generation Evolution to the United States in 2003 after witnessing the success Subaru had in that market with their Impreza WRX, a direct competitor in other global regions.^[3]

Japanese-spec cars were limited by a gentlemen's agreement to advertise no more than 280 PS (206 kW; 276 hp), a mark already reached by Evolution IV. Therefore, each subsequent version has unofficially evolved above the advertised power figures, with the Japanese-spec Evolution IX reaching an alleged output of around 321 PS (236 kW; 317 hp). Various versions available in other markets, particularly the UK, have official power outputs up to 411 PS (302 kW; 405 hp).

The tenth generation of the Lancer Evolution was launched in Japan 2007, and overseas markets in 2008.

In 2005, Mitsubishi introduced a concept version of the next-gen Evolution at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show named the Concept-X,^[15] designed by Omer Halilhodžić at the company's European design centre.^[16]

Mitsubishi unveiled a second concept car, the Prototype-X, at the 2007 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).^[17]

The Lancer Evolution X sedan features a newly designed 4B11T 2.0l (1997cc) turbocharged, all-aluminum inline-4 engine. Power and torque depend on the market but all versions will have at least 280 PS (205.9 kW; 276.2 hp) (JDM version), the American market version will have slightly more. The UK models will be reworked by Mitsubishi UK, in accordance with previous MR Evolutions bearing the FQ badge. Options for the UK Evolutions are expected to be between 300 hp (220 kW) and 360 hp (270 kW).

Two versions of the car will be offered in the U.S. The Lancer Evolution MR, with 6-speed Twin Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST). The other version is the GSR which will have a 5-speed manual transmission system. The car has also a new full-time four-wheel drive system named S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control), an advanced version of Mitsubishi's AWC system used in previous generations.^[18] The S-AWC uses torque vectoring technology to send different amount of torque to any wheel at any given time.

It also features Mitsubishi's new sequential semi-automatic six speed SST twin-clutch transmission with steering-mounted magnesium alloy shift paddles. It has replaced the Tiptronic automatic transmission, hence the SST version replaced the GT-A version (which was used in Evolution VII and Evolution IX Wagon). A five speed manual gearbox will also be available. Mitsubishi claims that the five speed manual transmission has always been preferred in rallying and should be very refined, resulting in a more satisfying drive.^[19] New Lancer Evolution will incorporate Mitsubishi's next generation RISE safety body.

The Evolution X went on sale October 1, 2007 in Japan,^[20] January 2008 in the USA,^[21] February in Canada (as the first version of Evolution in Canada)^[22] and in March 2008 in the UK.^[23] The Twin Clutch SST version was available in Japan from November 2007.^[24] Europe will follow with sales in May, GSR and MR version included premium Package.

The introduction of the 2010 MR-Touring moved the car even further upscale. Leather and a Moonroof became standard while revising the rear spoiler to just a lip spoiler.

Yeeees! Last saturday, I got the new Speed Machine Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Rally white, a bit difficult to source and I thought it was the only piece I need to complete line. But there's another one to hunt the green version of the "ELONE". As our fellow collector said with a heave of sigh "Never ending collections!" :D

And then a bunch of loose cars. There's a little story to some of these cars and I'll share them soon. ;)

Mitsubishi Pajero

The Mitsubishi Pajero (pronounced /pəˈdʒɛroʊ/, Spanish: [paˈxeɾo], Japanese パジェロ [padʒeɽo])^[1]^[2] is a sport utility vehicle manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors. It was named after Leopardus pajeros, the Pampas Cat which inhabits the Patagonia plateau region in southern Argentina.^[3] However, because pajero is a slang term for "wanker" in the Spanish language,^[2] alternative names have been adopted for certain overseas markets. It is known as the Mitsubishi Montero (meaning "mountain warrior") in Spain, India, and the Americas (except Brazil), and as Mitsubishi Shogun in the United Kingdom.

Another weekend with collector friends for a small swapmeet and toy car hunt gathering. I was approached by Michelle (Eric aka Decker Store assistant) to have a look at her bag of Tomica goodies and what did I found? The match awaited Mitsubishi Pajero Toy's Dream Project! Another fine piece to add to my Mitsubishi Pajero line. I will do a detail photo shoot of this line within the week. ;)

Woooooot! I can proudly say I'm one of the first two who have this fine item. ;)

Then I visited our local toy store Toy Kingdom and what do you know...I got a pair of Matchbox Toyota Land Cruiser Anaconda which was a rare find dangling on the peg this days.

WDIBT? Swapmeet Hauls

Yesterday was our club's bi-monthly swapmeet held at Honda Cars Kaloocan (HCKI). It was fun time bonding with friends and to see/buy tons of beautiful tiny cars know as diecast.

My pre-ordered items (from the US and club premium sellers) was distributed. I got some assorted Hot Wheels that will complete my Ford GT LM & VW Golf GTi and some other cars. Just take a close look at that rare to find Ecto-1! Very nice indeed! The recently released Datsun Bluebird 510 really looks nice in liveried white stock car. The Ferrari 599xx (slowly becoming hard-to-find) and Ferrari California both Speed Machines looks terribly awesome.

Then some assorted Matchbox...Land Rover Defender 110 Anaconda new addition/release, a pair of immaculate white classic Austin Mini Coopers (my mainline and will be posted here soon), additional Ford Explorer Sport Trac (another side collect) and the cute Cliff Hanger. I had never thought I ordered so many of Toyota Land Cruiser Anacondas. You might think that I'm hoarding but no! Those will end up to friends collections. I just helped in the acquisition. ;)

Then some assorted loose-but-mint items...a pair of Land Rover Defender 110 white & green, trio of Chevy Tahoe, additional Ford Expedition, red Brit flag roof BMW Mini Cooper also know as "BINI", a blue Ford Explorer, a VW Samba Van and lastly a very mint dark blue Tomica-esque-but-no-brand Toyota Hilux 4x4.

And finally, I got an army of the most anticipated Tomica Limited Mitsubishi Lancer EX Turbo popularly known here as "Lancer Box Type". ;)

In the 70s, the Brazilian market was closed for imports. The only sports car officially made there was the aging (and by then retired) Karmann Ghia, and its failed successor, the Karmann Ghia TC. Only independent car makers were able to fill the gap, notably Puma, Santa Matilde and Miura.

The SP, the final name of the car, was built on the frame of a Variant, with the same Volkswagen air cooled engine, but upgraded to 1700 cc, it developed 75 hp (56 kW), 160 km/h (100 mph) and made 10 km/L (28 mpg_-imp; 24 mpg_-US).

When the car was presented, it quickly drew media attention, with its many improvements over the local "air cooled" VW line, an impressive interior, its many extra features and its superb finishing.

A car named SP1 was also built, but due to its very poor performance (only 65 hp (48 kW) with a 1600 cc engine), it was soon discontinued. The same problem plagued the SP2. In fact, a malicious joke at that time was to relate the "SP2" name with "Sem Potência" ("Without Power", in Portuguese).

Despite its revolutionary look, the car failed to beat the Puma in performance. Although they used similar engines, the fiberglass Puma was much lighter. This resulted in low sales, and the SP was discontinued in February 1976.

With a total of 10,205 units made (670 of them exported, the majority 155 went to Nigeria with only one going to Europe, Portugal), the car is now sought-after as a valuable collector's item. One of them, in white, is in the VW museum on public display. While prices during the production time frame were roughly the same as the Beetle, the price of a well-preserved example today is considerably higher than contemporary VW models.
